US President Obama is going to visit China next month, which has warmed up the Sino-US ties. There have been frequent contacts between high-level officals from both sides, but Obama’s visit to China will definitely bring out a new heated discussion on topics concerning the bilateral relations of two most important powers in the world.

Since the first visit of former US president Nixon in 1972, China and the US has had a comprehensive communication in various fields and have both played important roles in world affairs. Besides official interactions, civil activities held by Chinese and American people also improved the mutual understandings.

However, we can not ignore fundamental problems and disputes between China and the USA. The two countries often hold controversial views toward Taiwan, Xinjiang and Tibet issues and the recent trade war further jeopardize bilateral relations.

Fortunately, both sides hold consensus that dialogue should be given priority when disputes happens and Obama’s visit to China in the mid of November is expected to realize important agreement betweent China and the USA.

Now, here, we would like to hear from you your impressive toward China, from any perspective that you are familiar with. We have several options for you and if yours is not in the list, leave your opinions here, we would like to hear more from you about your impression to our country.

Economic development at the expense of environment and social justice. The whole country is morally corrupt.

First off, I know many Chinese people here in NYC and believe that the Chinese cultural heritage is beautiful and rich. However, China's political system and it's indifference to suffering is troubling. I think China is a country that favors control and harmony over freedom. It wishes for prosperity for it's nation, and sees itself as a strong regional power. However, if harmony must be achieved by removing life liberty or happiness for a few, then so be it. If this means investing in the Sudan, regardless of genocide in Darfur, it is not china's problem. If it means censoring the Internet so Chinese citizens cannot fully express themselves, so be it. If it means taking land from farmers to build a dam, so be it. China's people have a long history of long suffering, struggle and hard work to improve their lot and that of their children, and I have never met a more nationalistic people (even Chinese Americans love China very much). However, I think they made a bad decision by letting their leaders off after the Tianemen Square massacre. A social contract of sorts was signed, stating that the people could embrace the financial and material benefits of capitalism , but one party communist rule would continue. Basically, one can get rich, but cannot speak their mind, politically or otherwise to some extent. A people with a younger mindset (think America in the 1700's), less respectful of leadership and elders, of a culture that was younger, may have openly rebelled and gained from it. I hope China will evolve into a source for international goodwill, and not let self interest be it's downfall.

No offense but I'm always curious about foreigners' judgment on the question of freedom in China. Why do you think China is not a free country? what's your definition of a free country?
