[Tennis] Henin, a Former No. 1, Will Return to Tennis

Following in the very successful unretirement footsteps of her countrywoman Kim Clijsters, the former No. 1-ranked Justine Henin announced on Belgian television Tuesday that she would return to the women’s tennis tour in time for the Australian Open in January.

“The fire within burns again,” the 27-year-old Henin said in an interview with VTM television. “The last 15 months, I’ve been able to recharge the batteries, emotionally as well.”
Henin’s decision comes nine days after Clijsters, who is also from Belgium, punctuated her return with an impressive run to the United States Open title. Clijsters, 26, came back 18 months after having a child but brought a fierce competitiveness to the WTA Tour that seems to be missing among many of the top-ranked players.
